Registration Information

Welcome to the Rochester Youth Hockey Registration Information page.  We are eagerly anticipating our best season yet as Rochester's premier youth hockey organization.  For the upcoming season we are going to require everyone to register online.

Rochester Youth Hockey has programs for all level of players from ages 3 through 18.  These programs include our instructional Initiation and Pony Programs as well as our competitive House and Travel Programs.   Below are our program offerings:

Little Tykes Program

This program is designed for 3 and 4 year olds who wish to learn to skate, and learn some basic skills of hockey.  They will practice Saturdays starting in October for 10 weeks.  This group will have designated coaches, to help develop balance on skates, holding a stick, and begin their development of skating skills in a very relaxed atmosphere, adhering to the needs of this age group.

Initiation Program

This program is open to all age children 5 and up who desire to learn the skills of Hockey. This program is designed by Rochester Youth Hockey and each practice is run by certified coaches. This program is 2X a week, one week night, and a Saturday practice.  The program begins in October and ends in March.  The focus of this program is having fun while learning the basic skills of hockey.  The players will be developing their skills of skating forward and backwards, balance, starts/stops, basic shooting, and basic stick handling.  Full hockey equipment is required.

Pony Program

This program is designed for children ages 4-6 that have completed a beginner program.  The main focus of this group is fun and skill development.  This group is still very much focused on skill development of skating, shooting, and stick handling.   This is the group that is an introduction to a “team” with a head coach, assistant coaches, and a team manager.  In this group all kids skate together for the first 10 weeks, and then they will be divided into teams.   Beginning after January 1st, the teams will have cross-ice scrimmages against each other, and other local organizations.  These scrimmages will take the place of one of the practices, not in addition to.  They are meant for the children to have fun and to begin to develop a team feeling.

House Program

RYH House Teams for ages from 7-18 compete in the competitive EAHC league in the greater Rochester Area.  House Teams are selected based upon the registrations received and on ice evaluation sessions.  Mite House teams will play in 12 EAHC League games and Squirt and above teams will play in 16 EACH games.  Teams practice two times per week starting after Labor Day and practice one time per week once the game schedules begins in November.

Our Mite B teams this year will be participating in the EAHC under the newly organized Cross Ice Program.  This program will implement the suggestions USA Hockey's ADM model which stresses the efficient use of ice for both games on practices.  Players in this program will participate in 14 cross ice games and will practice twice a week throughout the season.  This program will emphasize small area drills and practices to maximize the benefits of practice.  A major benefit of this program will also be ice utilization, which will result in much lower registration fees.

Travel Programs

Tier I and II Youth Travel Programs at the U10, U12, U14, U16 and U18 Levels participating in the WNYAHL Travel Leagues.  Teams are selected during tryouts held each March, April, & May.  These programs are our highest level of competitive team play for youth ages 7 to 18. Quality competition, off-ice conditioning/practice programs, and the most qualified coaches offer enhanced player development.

We look forward to the continued success of our players; whether it be in College, Olympic and National teams, Junior teams, Professional teams, or just a lifetime of fun and enjoyment of the sport of hockey!
