Rochester Midget Invitational Champs
by posted 08/28/2014

The Rochester Junior Americans 18U team defeated the St. Lawrence Thunder 5-4 in overtime to win the 2014 Rochester Midget Invitational Championship.

Nicholas Pulli scored the game winner for Rochester, who stormed back from a 2-0 first period deficit to take a 4-3 lead in the third period. St. Lawrence scored a late equalizer to force the extra period, but Pulli’s third goal of the game allowed Rochester to hoist the trophy in their first pre-season tournament.

Rochester cruised through preliminary play, going 4-0-0 while scoring 35 goals. Goalies Alex Johnston and Sean Kuhn anchored a dominating defense, allowing just four goals in preliminary play. The playoffs saw Johnston earn a shutout in the semi-finals against West Seneca as well.

“Both goalies provided consistent play while having timely saves when needed,” said assistant coach John Cullen. “Alex and Sean are both working hard in preparing for the season and this weekend was a big step in their development heading into the USPHL season.”

Rochester begins USPHL play on September 13th against the Bay State Breakers.

FREE Girls’ Back to School Skate/

Edge 10U Program Registration

Tues Sep 2nd 6-7p and Thur Sep 4th 7-8p

Edge Girls Hockey, the premier all girls program in Western New York, and the World Class Bill Gray’s Regional Iceplex have partnered to host a free, all girls try hockey week and 10U program registration which will run for two nights the first week of September.

The free one week program runs on Tuesday Sep 2nd from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM and Thursday Sep 4th from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM and is designed for girls ages 7 to 12. No experience is required and full equipment is provided for each session. Instruction will be provided from Edge coaches and players.

An informational session will be held for families each night to introduce the Edge 10U Development program and team.  Families will be able to meet the coaches, review the program and season plan and have the opportunity to sign up and get your daughter’s hockey career started.

One of main goals of the Edge/Bill Gray’s partnership is to introduce local girls to the sport of ice hockey, which in turn leads to exercise and healthier lifestyles for those children. By offering free skates and programs such as these, we lead the way in bringing girls to the sport.

This unique program and team is being offered to girls who wish to either skate exclusively on in an all girls’ program or to supplement their ice time and development while playing on a mixed team with RYH or MCYH.

Program Information
